One of the fundamental aspects of the rule of law is the principle of legal certainty. The different decisions in similar cases, made by the same court, which is also the court of last instance for deciding on the legal issue, may, in the absence of a legal mechanism that ensures the consistency of the decisions, violate that principle and thereby reduce public trust in the judiciary, which is one of the basic components of the state based on the rule of law. Precisely for those reasons, on October 5 and 6, 2023, a work meeting was held with the judges and some of the judicial associates of the Supreme Court, with the aim of selecting the most relevant and significant case law for the period from 2017 to 2023. At the meeting, the most significant decisions were singled out, which will later be published in the Judicial Practice Bulletin of the Supreme Court of Justice of Republic of North Macedonia. This cooperation is within the scope of the project “Supporting the quality and accountability in the Macedonian justice sector” financed by the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Skopje.
