CONDUCTED TRAINING OF TRAINERS ON THE TOPIC “PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA AND THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY IN THE ONLINE SPACE”

In the period from October 14 – 16, 2024, the Center for Legal Research and Analysis and the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association in cooperation with the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors, within the project “Efficient Justice for the Protection of Basic Freedoms and the Right to Privacy in the Online  Space”, conducted a three-day training for trainers on the topic “Protection of Personal Data and the Right to Privacy in the Online Space”.

The training aims to establish a sustainable network of judges and public prosecutors who can be future trainers for personal data protection, the right to privacy and human rights in the digital space. The training will strengthen the expertise of the participants and provide them with the necessary pedagogical and methodological skills to effectively convey these topics. The selected trainers will have a key role in encouraging continuous learning and strengthening the capacities of the judiciary to protect the right to privacy. A total of eight judges and public prosecutors were trained as future trainers on the protection of personal data and the right to privacy in the online space.

The following topics were covered in the training:

  • Review of methods and ways of holding trainings
  • Domestic legal framework (general and specialized)
  • International legal framework, including the jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights
  • Special reference to Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the test of proportionality
  • Institutional framework, including mechanisms for international cooperation
  • The influence of modern times and new technologies on the protection of personal data and the right to privacy
  • Instructions for conducting practical exercises

The training was delivered by personal data protection experts Igor Kuzevski and Manuela Stanoevska – Stoilkovska.

The project “Efficient Justice for the Protection of Basic Freedoms and the Right to Privacy in the Online Space” is financed by the EU, and implemented by the Center for Legal Research and Analysis and the Macedonian Association of Young Lawyers.
