Supporting the Macedonian criminal justice system in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness in combating SOC

About the Project

This Project, supported by the Western Balkans Rule of Law Initiative, focuses on strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of the Macedonian criminal justice system in dealing with serious and organized crime (SOC).

North Macedonia has been struggling with organized crime for the past period and continues to face challenges in addressing its impact on security, governance, and the rule of law. Despite efforts to combat criminal networks and corruption, the country still struggles with weak institutions and limited resources to fully dismantle these groups.

However, with this Project, we aim to achieve significant improvements in strengthening the justice system and reducing the influence of organized crime through the implementation of the following activities:

  • Development and implementation of advanced training for public prosecutors, judges, and investigators;
  • Development of standards and operating procedures (SOPs) for investigators;
  • Improving the quality of indictments;
  • Developing a methodology for assessing the complexity of cases in the prosecution system.
