The Center for Legal Research and Analysis, in cooperation with the Macedonian Association of Young Lawyers and Front 21/42 , started the implementation of the project “Environmental Governance for the Western Balkan Green Agenda” which is the result of continuous support from The European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia.
It is a three-year project that officially started on January 1, 2024, with four different clusters of activities.
The general goal of the project is to strengthen the rule of law in the environment, especially in the fight against environmental crimes and other serious offenses through effective administrative and criminal enforcement in accordance with EU standards and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
The specific goals foreseen by the project are:
- Improving the implementation of environmental legislation through regular assessments of the impact of legislation, increasing the environmental law enforcement capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the judiciary and the State Environmental Inspectorate;
- Strengthening the cooperation between civil society organizations, the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, the media, state institutions and the private sector in order to influence public policies and environmental decision-making;
- Strengthening the capacities of local civil society organizations in order to monitor environmental protection.
