Equality in Judiciary, Security in Life

About the Project

The Center for Legal Research and Analysis together with the Roma Lawyers Association implemented the project “Equality in Judiciary, Security in Life”.

The Project aimed to promote equal and fair treatment of Roma population by the justice administrators by challenging discrimination and anti-Gypsyism through promotion of equality in the Macedonian society.

The Project assessed the current situation and identified the main reasons for the Roma insecurity in the Macedonian judicial system, taking into consideration key findings of many reports that clearly point out certain level of prejudice and unequal treatment, not only procedural, but as a matter of practice as well. After identification of the main reasons of insecurity, the Project focused on sensitization of key judicial players (judges, public prosecutors) by providing several training on non-discrimination. The project also created a comprehensive policy paper and provided recommendations, that were be distributed to relevant institutions.

The Project also implemented a capacity building component aiming at increasing the knowledge of young law students on non-discrimination principal and equality before law and promoting their active involvement in tackling anti-Roma rhetoric, hate speech and hate crime towards this community in the country.
